STUDY GROUP READING #229
January 2006

OPENING TEACHING
1. Concerning someone we loved on earth who died and is now expressing as a soul: if we greet them, or call on them for some reason, do they tune in to us at that moment, or, are they already over-watching those they loved who are continuing human life?

2. In the Christian tradition, some believers think of Lucifer as a fallen angel who was cast out of heaven and now rules over “Hell” as Satan. Would you speak about this?

3. A male Study Group member in North Carolina asks: “You indicated in the last Study Group Reading that we can add more intimacy and love to a sexual liaison in order to create greater happiness. In our culture, or at least in my experience, I assumed that intimacy and love would follow ‘chemistry,’ romance, and a good ‘fit.’ If these are not consciously present, how can we create more love and intimacy in a relationship? Or, would you recommend that we not have sexual liaisons unless these are present?”

4. A Study Group member in Wyoming asks: “I've been working to see something positive in the George Bush phenomenon, and I find it a hard go. Would you give a perspective from which the role of George Bush and his administration could be seen as something useful for Americans, maybe even for humanity?”

5. Last month, you stated that the human negative energy of a person stays on the earth after that person dies. How does this energy affect the earth, or the living humans? What happens to that energy? How is it manifested?

6. Would you please close with an attunement for us to use this month?

STUDY GROUP READING #230
February 2006

OPENING TEACHING
1. This is a follow-up to a question last month in which you spoke about “dark” and “light” energies, and the complexity of us understanding those energies. We are still wondering how the dark energies manifest on the earth. Is it in the weather, or in diseases like AIDS? Where does the dark energy go, and what does it do?

2. There are many adopted children these days, which brings up the question of “nature” versus “nurture.” How strong is the genetic component—nature—in relation to the influence of the adopted parents—nurture? Can the genetic makeup cause a child to feel that they do not belong in their adopted family?

3. You have often said that if we do not like our current inner experience, we can change our thoughts and feelings to create a different experience. This seems much easier said than done, as we are often caught up in the negative illusion of the moment and cannot seem to fight our way out of it. What is your guidance here?

4. Watching programs on television that show psychics who are able to tap into a person’s thoughts and feelings—both from people who are living, as well as from those who have died—it appears as though our thoughts and feelings are actually some kind of energy that is present, but also seems to be accessible for some time after an event. Would you explain how human thoughts and feelings can be accessed after they have been thought and felt? Does this have something to do with some sort of actual physical energy that exists for a period of time? Would you speak about this in terms of presently living people, and people who have died?

5. Some say that we do a lot of spiritual work while we are asleep. That some of us are serving as “agents of transformation” for the spiritual growth of ourselves and others while in the sleep state. Would you please comment on this?

STUDY GROUP READING #231
March 2006

OPENING TEACHING
1. There are different theories to explain how life is evolving on earth. The most widely accepted one is Charles Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection. There is now a theory gaining in popularity called, “Intelligent Design.” This is a theory that there is a design and a designer of the universe, and that this designer is guiding the evolution of life. Some who believe in this theory reject Natural Selection altogether. Would you comment on this?

2. Would you tell us something about the feeling of deja-vu that many of us get from time to time? Is the feeling a remembrance of former lifetimes, or just funny things that our brain does? Is there a purpose to such experiences?

3. In past Readings, you have described how the Christ Force came into earth during a particularly dark time to bring some compassion and love, and a new way to look at the world. Why did Mohammed come? Did he also bring lightness? Was Mohammed also a very advanced soul like Jesus? Did he also bring a truly loving spirit into the world?
4. A Study Group member is having difficulty with one of your most consistent teachings. He writes: “You have often urged us to say to ourselves, ‘I am an eternal soul and nothing can damage my being.’ However, in my daily life, I don’t really think about, or care about damage to my being or my eternal soul. I am worried about damage to my physical body. I am worried about health, money, love, and so forth. How do we bridge this gap between knowing that we are an eternal soul, and worrying about our daily affairs? Why should I care about what my soul thinks?”

5. A large number of humans, called “baby boomers” by the media, are approaching the later part of their lives. Many of them struggle with difficult issues of aging. How can we approach our later years with wisdom and insight? Would you give us your wise perspective on aging?

6. Would you please speak about the perspective of a three- to four-year-old child. What is it like for a soul who has had many lifetimes and much experience to express through a tiny body. How do such young children see the world? What influence does their soul have on their experience?

STUDY GROUP READING #232
April 2006

OPENING TEACHING
1. The concept of idealism, and living our ideals, is considered to be a noble, even holy way to live. However, suicide bombers are also living their ideals. Is there another way to think about idealism?

2. Related to the previous question, a Study Group member in Florida asks: “To Americans, the terrorism and war in the world present proof that we always need to have a military defense against the terrorists who wish to destroy the American way of life. Yet, we are told to love others, and tolerate other belief systems. That confuses me because that ultimately would be our downfall. Would you please clarify how love and peace can coexist with an equal force of ultimate control by fanatics?”

3. Many people seem to respond to their early childhood experiences by taking on a certain negative mindset that often leads to feelings of despair. Why is it so difficult to let go of the past? Are past impressions that were created, especially those created in negativity, held somehow in our bodies, or in the mind, or in the emotional self? What is the best process to use to release these deep-seated ideas or beliefs, and to change our thinking in order to acquire a more positive consciousness?
4. A Study Group member in Canada asks: “In the past I have been inspired by several different channeled entities in readings given by other people. Now, I am inspired by your Readings. Why are there are different sources of God-wisdom? Is the source the same? Will the messages agree with each other? If not, why are there differences?

5. Is it possible to have an experience so profound and deeply moving that we actually change on a cellular level? For example, after such a profound experience, could the cell structure and arrangement in our eyes change such that we see the same person differently, even though they haven’t changed?

6. It seems that you advocate action, effort, and persistence as a way to reach our goals. There are other spiritual disciplines that encourage changing our thoughts in order to “attract” the result that we want by affirming its presence in consciousness in order for it to easily “show up.” Will you please comment on these different approaches, and guide us to more easily manifest our dreams?

7. Would you please close with an attunement for us to use in the coming month?

STUDY GROUP READING #233
May 2006

OPENING TEACHING
1. Your opening leads into our first question. If there were no fear of the unknown, or fear of death, would there be religion and a search for God, or is that an artifact of fear?

2. A Study Group member in Florida writes the following: “Certain Christians, Jews and Muslims believe that a Messiah will come to change human civilization. In past Readings, you have said that it is our choices as living humans that will transform human life. Yet, the teaching of a Messiah is so ingrained in some religious doctrine that many people continue to wait for a Messiah to change the world. Some groups also believe that the Messiah will take the faithful to heaven, while non-believers will be left behind. Would you please guide us to know the truth about a Messiah changing life on earth, and, certain groups of humans going to heaven while others do not?”

3. This question is from Wisconsin. “What factors are involved in individuals who adopt an attitude of strict religious fundamentalism. What leads such people to interpret ancient spiritual writings, such as the Bible, in the most literal translation possible?”

4. [Susan] It’s been my experience that people like that don’t know that they’re frightened, or would never think that they were frightened. They simply think they are right. So, I guess I’m wondering, is it even appropriate to approach them at all, or just to leave them alone?

5. A Study Group member who is in a Bible study group in Los Angeles asks: “In our group, we read Exodus 7-13, where God creates many plagues to convince Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. Many people in our group wanted to avert their attention from this fierce God. What does this story say about the nature of God? What does it say about the nature of humans? Is God a warrior god? Should humans, being created in the image of God, be warriors too?”

6. And from Minnesota: “How can we move from superficial ‘positive thinking’ that is hoping, wishing, and fantasizing, to the kind of positive thinking that comes from ‘knowing’ our soul and God?”

7. This is a question about memory responses to stimuli. Sometimes a smell, an action, a word, or a place will elicit a strong memory response that can bring us painful memories that we do not want to continue to have to deal with. If we have followed the advice that you often suggest for dealing with negative feelings—which is to fully experience the feelings, share then, and then release them—and still these memory responses continue every time we have the “stimulus” experience, what is the best way to release the emotional attachment that exists between the negative memory and the stimulus experience?

8. Would you help us understand, on the human personality level and the soul level, the phenomena of senility and Alzheimer’s disease in some of our aging population?

9. Would you please close with an attunement for us to use this month?

STUDY GROUP READING #234
June 2006

OPENING TEACHING
1. A Study Group member from Florida asks: “Some people who have been found guilty of unspeakable acts, such as murder, are often given life sentences, or put to death in
order to remove them from society. Should we feel bad if we are on a jury and we pick the death penalty for such a person?”

2. What about a person who does something damaging to another person, like child abuse, but is never caught and punished while they are alive? What happens to that person
after their death? Is there some kind of compensation, or balancing, or “making right” on the other side? It seems unfair that they would simply get away with doing something bad that hurts other people.

3. This question is from the state of Virginia. They write: “We live in a ‘soup’ of electronic communication waves swirling about on earth. There are radio, TV, cell phone, and satellite signals all invisibly humming around and through us. Now, many of us are adding signals in our homes through wireless computer networks, cordless phones, even broadcasts from our electric meters. What effects do these human-generated invisible forces have on our bodies, our health, and our minds? Do they do any harm to us at the cellular, DNA, atomic, subatomic, or life energy levels?”
  • Top of Page
4. A Study Group member from Wyoming asks: “A friend of mine just died of cancer. So many people in our time seem to get cancer. Is there a larger explanation for this phenomenon than our polluting of the Earth and of our food?”

5. This question is from the state of Washington: “Many people seem to have much trauma and suffering in their lives. Is this suffering the path that the soul has chosen for its learning in this lifetime, or is it a case of confused human choices causing one to stray from the soul’s intent?”

6. This question is from California: “The biggest threat to our current form of existence seems to stem from the changes that are occurring in the climate, and subsequently in the environment. Assuming that our emotional, mental, and spiritual states of being have a direct effect on the environment, would you give us guidelines that would enable us to help the planet to heal?”

STUDY GROUP READING #235
July 2006

OPENING TEACHING
1. This question comes from a Study Group member in North Carolina: “You have often said that when dealing with negative emotions, we should start with the ‘misery’—to go deeply into the bad feelings for a few moments, and even exaggerate those feelings by imagining the worst scenario. Then, you say that we can take control of our thoughts and feelings, and shift away from negativity, by remembering that we are eternal beings, that we can never be harmed. So, what is the reason for going so deeply into our negative feelings in the first place if we can simply change our thoughts to make our feelings positive? Are you saying that we have a certain amount of negativity to heal in this lifetime and we need to get it over with by feeling our feelings and releasing the negativity?”

2. A Study Group member in California asks: “It seems to me that people are taking less and less responsibility for their own actions and for events in their lives. Many want to find someone else to blame if things in their life turn out badly. Is there a cost to our own personal development when we blame others? Does this cause us to feel more separated from life and love? Would you give us some ways to quiet the urge to blame others for the negativity that occurs in our life?”
3. This question comes from Wisconsin: “The way that many people now use the word ‘science’ seems to be similar to the way some people use the words ‘God’ and ‘The Bible,’ to speak of the ultimate source of truth. They seem to believe that what ‘science’ says is absolute truth, beyond question or interpretation, and a person is a heretic for questioning what science says. Would you speak about science and the scientific method, and putting unquestioning belief into this process?”

4. Some have observed that in very old people, or sometimes in people who have had strokes, their personality changes. Often, it appears that they no longer have the social controls that others have. Behaviors that were repressed begin to surface and become more dominant. Usually they are negative behaviors, such as despair, or inappropriate sexuality. It almost seems like a barrier to these behaviors and attitudes was removed and they spill out, making it very difficult for those around them. Would you please discuss this?

5. Many times people seem to be ready to die. They have lived long lives. Their bodies are failing and they say that they are ready to go. It appears as though their spirit, or life energy is mostly gone. Yet, it seems as though some kind of animal instinct for life is keeping their body going, when they as humans do not want to go on. Will you discuss this from a spiritual perspective? And, what is the role of loved ones and/or the medical community?

STUDY GROUP READING #236
August 2006

OPENING TEACHING
1. There is a new war raging in the middle east, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue, the summer temperatures are breaking records, Bush blocked government support of stem cell research, etc. etc. I could go on and on. This world seems like some kind of macabre joke. Would you please open the questioning with a little reassurance and encouragement for us?

2. You said that when there are enough humans choosing kindness, compassion, and love, then the earth will be healed. How many humans will that be when you say enough humans? Does that mean 100 % of the humans have to be choosing kindness, compassion, and love?

3. This is a question from Virginia: “For the past two decades or so, China has had a population policy that restricts couples to having only one child. Boys are valued more than girls in China, and to the extent possible, couples have restricted the allowed births to boy babies. These children are now young adults, and there is a population ratio in China of 1.5 boys to every 1 girl. This means that in China today, and for the foreseeable future, there are not enough young women for these young men to marry and have families of their own. Since women and family life have some moderating effect on men, I am concerned that this large over-population of male-only children could result in a potential aggressive force in the world. Would you please comment on this?”
4. From Tacoma, WA.: “Nearing Death Awareness (NDA) refers to the special, unusual communications of the dying. As death approaches, the person seems to have a unique awareness of people, places, and things around them. This awakening gradually progresses and increases as their consciousness shifts from here on earth to a more spiritual plane of existence. They seem to recognize people that we cannot see. Would you speak about what is taking place in these experiences?

5. This question is from Minnesota: “I heard a lecturer on quantum physics say that our brains can only process a small amount of everything that we see. Is that true? If so, is that because we are still evolving and will eventually use more of our brain?”

6. A Wisconsin Study Group member asks: “Suppose that due to actions in a past lifetime, a person was intended by their soul to wrestle with some condition throughout their current life, such as chronic depression for example. Then, a new pill is discovered to cure that condition. Would that indicate that the person had overcome the karma and the lesson was complete, or would they just be postponing that issue for another time?”

STUDY GROUP READING #237
September 2006

OPENING TEACHING
1. The following question is from New York: “In certain religious traditions, it is considered damaging to the soul of a deceased person to cremate their body before a certain time period has passed. There are other traditions that require a speedy disposal of a body after death. What is the spiritual perspective on the disposition of a dead body? What about cremation? Are there trace elements of the soul in a physical body even after death that “linger” in the cells of the deceased? Is the transition process somehow less complete if the body is cremated?”

2. Following along the same line of questioning, what is the spiritual perspective on organ donation? If a person dies a sudden death in a car accident, is the soul, well you just said it wouldn’t be less “complete” if some of their living organs are harvested after the rest of their body has died. But, if the organs are kept alive so there is still life kept in an organ, is there any part of the soul of the deceased left in that organ?

3. Is there a way to think about a deceased loved one and immediately feel their presence, rather than suffer the pain of their absence?

4. After we die, will we have access to the answers about life that we have struggled with, and disagreed over, in our human lifetime? Will the answers to the “questions of the ages” be revealed to us?
5. This question is from North Carolina: “It seems, for me at least, more difficult to create positive inner experiences, thoughts, visions, and feelings than it is to focus on negative thinking. It seems as if suffering has a pay-off. It seems as if I hold an unconscious belief that being in pain will ensure me getting to heaven. Why do we sometimes hold on to these negative habits, and why does it seem so difficult to change our perceptions to ones of greater joy, creativity, and loving experiences?”

6. A Study Group member in Seattle asks: “Would you explain hypnosis? Are people really in an altered state, or are they just willingly complying with the hypnotherapist in a conscious state?”

7. As a follow-up, we would like to know about mind control, or “group think,” that can control a large group of people, such as a cult of fundamentalism. Would you please explain what happens in the mind when a large group agrees on an idea?

8.. Would you please close with an attunement for us to use this month?

STUDY GROUP READING #238
October 2006

OPENING TEACHING
1. A Study Group member in Tacoma, Washington asks: “Some religions teach that Jesus is the only mediator between God and man. You have said in past readings that Jesus holds a special place in the spiritual world, but how does that relate to us as individual humans, or souls?”

2. This question is from California: “There are many religions or spiritual groups whose teachings include levels of initiation, rungs on the ladder, so to speak, to attaining the highest consciousness, or enlightenment. What are the spiritual origins of initiation? Does initiation mirror a spiritual hierarchy? In other words, are there some ‘levels’ in spirit that humans are trying to mirror through initiation?”

3. You partially answered this next question, but perhaps you could elaborate a bit. How can those of us who do not follow a path that includes a formal initiation, create a kind of spiritual initiation of our own? What are some signposts in our living that would help us feel that we are growing spiritually?
4. This question is from Florida: “Claims of Atlantis existing in the Atlantic Ocean are debunked and ridiculed by the scientific community. Scientists say that it must have been Thera, or Santorini in the Mediterranean area. The late psychic, Edgar Cayce, claimed that the Atlantian hall of records exists in three sites: Guatemala, Giza under the sphinx, and possibly Andros next to the island of Bimini. Would you clarify this for our understanding?”

5. A Study Group member from Virginia asks a question that many of us wonder about: “When I hear you say that the soul’s existence after death is all emotion—constant feelings of goodness and love—that sounds very boring to me. If there is no doing, no contrast, no problems to solve—only ‘love and joy’ emotion—what are the souls doing? If they are not ‘doing,’ then what is the experience, or process that benefits the soul? If there is no change, no time, does the soul get tired or bored with this? How do souls learn in the other dimensions? What are they learning?”

STUDY GROUP READING #239
November 2006

OPENING TEACHING
1. This question is from Maryland: “You have often talked about the importance of Jesus and the Christ Force. How does Mohammed differ from Jesus? If the Christ Force is universal, how would you speak about it to Muslims, Hindus, Jews and people of other faiths? The way that you have emphasized Jesus and the Christ Force might lead some people to think that you are implying that Christianity is ‘better than’ other religions. Would you clarify this for us?”

 2. You said that the Christ Force could be called anything. So why is it that you have chosen to call it that, rather than a Light Force, for example?

3. From North Carolina: “You have discussed numerous times the importance of humans learning to love each other. Does the earth exist primarily as a place for this human interaction of love?”

4. This question is from Florida: “You previously said that Jesus will not return in a physical form as the ‘Messiah.’ People of other religions are expecting the return of a Messiah-type figure, such the Muslims who are expecting the ‘Mahdee’ to return shortly. At this time, the leader of Iran thinks that he can make this happen by destroying Israel. Would you please tell us if this event is likely to happen, and how we can start on the road to actually creating kindness, compassion, and love to manifest all around the world."
5. This question is from California: “Many mid-aged women use various kinds of hormone replacement to ease the symptoms of menopause and aging, and to protect heart-health and bone density. The research studies that track both effectiveness and risks do these tests with synthetic hormones manufactured by major drug companies. Some holistic doctors think bio-identical hormones are a better alternative. We know there are many individual factors to consider about all medical interventions, but can you tell us if there is an appreciable difference between bio-identical hormones and those that are tested in research?”

6. This is from the state of Virginia: “You have said in an earlier reading that at death a person reviews the actions of their life, and that they experience the emotions and effects of their actions on others for the purpose of learning which actions are not desirable. How is this after-death experience affected, or altered, by forgiveness on the part of the person who received the hurtful actions, or who did not react to a hurtful action in a painful way—if the person was able to rise above the hurt and focus on the goodness of life?"

7. Also from California: “November is the month of Thanksgiving in the United States. Thanksgiving is about giving thanks and being grateful. This has been a difficult time worldwide, with much criticism and complaining about politics and other issues. Would you please give us some insights into the higher benefits of gratitude, and tell us how to find gratitude in our daily lives?”

STUDY GROUP READING #240
December 2006

OPENING TEACHING
1. Our first question this month is from Minnesota: “Sometimes I'll be either thinking of, or sensing someone who may live half a world away from me, and a few moments later, she'll call and tell me she was thinking of me too. This seems to be happening more and more. Is this one way our souls manifest our soul connection with each other? If so, is there a way we can develop that ability to consciously connect with other human beings at a soul level?”

2. This question is from a Study Group member in Iowa who has a teenage daughter: “Teenagers today, encouraged by media output, seem to treat sex as just another bodily function. How will this affect the long-term human attitudes toward sex? Is the attitude over that sex is a precious and sacred act of love?”

3. This question is from Pennsylvania: “You often acknowledge that mastering earth can be a complex, frustrating affair in which feelings of failure are common. How can we give our human selves the gifts of comfort and joy?”
4. This question is from California: "You have said that Jesus came into earth during a period of heightened human selfishness and self-preoccupation. What did he say to people in order to gain them as followers, as well as to help them understand that human self-created negativity is caused by exaggerated fears?"

5. From the state of Virginia: “In the Bible, we are told that Jesus said, ‘In my father’s world there are many mansions; if it were not true I would have told you.’ What was meant by this statement?”

6. This is also from California: “The scientific ability to test for genetic predispositions is increasing. Do our genes, or what scientists read as genes, stay the same throughout a lifetime, or is this flexible? For instance, if someone tests for and finds a breast cancer gene when she is 30 years old, assuming accurate testing, does that mean that the results would be the same 10 or 20 years later? If this is a flexible area, would you please discuss those flexibilities? On the other hand, if genes are stable throughout a lifetime, would you please talk about the relationship between our genes and our souls and personalities?”

7. Would you please close with an attunement for us to use this month?
